Sarcoma Awareness Week Wrap-Up

According to our friends at Team Sarcoma, with a dozen teams left to report the results of their events, the preliminary count of the number of participants in the Team Sarcoma Initiative’s International Sarcoma Awareness Week is over 14,000 people! There were over 85 events in 14 countries and 28 states in the United States. One of these events was The Seany Lew Charity Poker Tournament, which was met with great success at the Hotel Solamar here in downtown San Diego. The following press release describes some of what took place at the reception for another awareness event that was held in Washington, DC:

Ambassadors from Lithuania, Mexico, and New Zealand gathered with physicians and government representatives on July 24 in Washington, DC, to honor people dealing with sarcoma, a rare and dangerous cancer. The reception was a part of the global Team Sarcoma Initiative (TSI), a growing movement that involved more than 14,000 people in 14 countries last week.”

An International Sarcoma Awareness Week Event

We have been talking with Team Sarcoma and working with them to help promote International Sarcoma Awareness Week, this July 18-26.  Our official event is going to be the Seany Lew Charity Poker Tournament.  More than 10,000 people around the world will be participating in various events during this special week dedicated to educating the public about sarcomas and what they can do to help find a cure.  Sean was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, which is a bone cancer.  On their website, Team Sarcoma defines sarcoma as “a cancer of the connective tissues, such as nerves, muscles, cartilage, joints, bone, or blood vessels”.  If you have visited The Seany Foundation website lately, you’ll read that “99% of all sarcomas occur in children.”  In recognition of International Sarcoma Awareness Week, we’ll be displaying more information about sarcomas at our poker tournament on July 18 as well as sporting the official “Sarcoma knows no borders” bracelets.  Show your support by signing up online for our event at www.theseanyfoundation.org/poker
