Racing Fever Hits Hard!

Racing fever has taken over here in San Diego and The Seany Foundation is learning the ropes at the race track.  Members of Team Seany met today with Dyan Abrams to watch Flashover pull ahead in the final stretch to take first place!

After race 3, we headed to the barn to pay a visit to one of our favorite horses: Seany’s Story.  He is young, healthy, and beautiful.  While enjoying all of the attention, he repeatedly attempted to stick his nose down Tara’s blouse!  Yes, we can all agree that Sean would be proud.  Come see Seany’s Story race in a couple more weeks at the Del Mar Racetrack!

Opening Day at the Races

Team Seany is dressing up for opening day at the races today at the Del Mar Racetrack.  We’re trying to learn the ropes of horse racing now that The Seany Foundation has some horses of its own that will soon be running. We’ll also be sure to see one of our directors and top-givers, Jeffrey Strauss (a big race aficionado), at the track.

At last year’s Celebration gala at Moores UCSD Cancer Center, Dyan and Barry Abrams announced a surprise donation to The Seany Foundation.  Mr. Abrams originally met Mitch Robins at the cementery on one of the many afternoons that Mitch spends visiting a small, personal garden alongside the stone etched with Sean’s name.  After having visited the website and having been touched by Sean’s story and Sean’s own words on his CarePages, Mr. Abrams decided to make a contribution that would continue to give back over the years.

The Abrams bought two new thoroughbred horses, named them “Seany’s Story” and “Seany’s Courage”, and promised 25% of all winnings to The Seany Foundation.  Their generosity moved the crowd and was certainly a wonderful and welcome surprise for the Foundation.

Thank you, Dyan and Barry! We hope you enjoy this racing season!  We’ll look forward to seeing you at the track.

Hairless Potter Crowd Speaks Out

Here’s a wonderful note we received via email from one of last night’s attendees:

I wanted to thank you for such a wonderful event. I had such a great time.  Were you one of the ladies dressed in costume from the foundation?

Until the other day, I had never heard of Seany Foundation, and I must say it is very inspiring!  Any kind of foundation created in the name of another for such a cause as your is amazing and I am honored to have heard about your cause.  The event was a great success and I am sure Sean is very proud and smiling down on all of you.

My husband was “Harry” who won the costume contest.  I am sure he will want to thank you as well, so I will be forwarding your e-mail address to him.

I would love to be added to your newsletter and look forward to helping the cause in the future!

I just thought you would be pleased to know that this event has brought awareness to as least one new person, so you guys are absolutely doing the right thing.

Once again, thank you for such a great event. It was awesome, and the movie was great!

Hairless Potter lives!

Did you know…?

Sean’s favorite books were the Harry Potter series?  He would even joke that he was “Hairless Potter”!  (He would cast spells on automatic sliding doors at the hospital to get them to open for him.)

Sean’s one and only job was working at the cinema Ultra Star Del Mar Highlands.  He would go there on his scooter to see movies all the time.  At one point, Jess, the manager, offered him a job.  The theater needed the help taking tickets, and Sean was there all the time anyway.  Free movies?!  Sean was in.  We have his first paycheck hanging on the wall at the office.  And thus began the beautiful friendship that has now blossomed into summertime fun with The Seany Foundation and UltraStar Del Mar.

We now have our Summer Blockbuster event tickets -compliments of our good friends at North Shore Printery.  So, if you’re interested in attending the party, just drop us a line at [email protected]
