Ask any kid in treatment about the benefits of art therapy. Our own Seany could tell you that starring as Daddy Warbucks in a local production of Annie certainly had a positive impact on his self-esteem. This year, we are pleased to announce that there are two crucial art programs at Rady Children’s Hospital that will be brought to you by The Seany Foundation:
“Art from the Heart” Exhibit
This exhibit showcases the artistic talents of children currently battling cancer at Rady Children’s Hospital. The event allows participants to submit original artwork and have it displayed throughout the facility. Art from the Heart lets the kids express themselves through art and receive recognition for their creativity. It also raises awareness about the power of art in healthcare. The exhibit and reception are open to the artists and their family and friends, as well as the judges and Rady staff. Costs include art supplies; certificates and ribbons; posters, flyers, and programs; refreshments; and a summer art intern. (Amount needed: $2,500)
Glee Club for Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Patients and their Siblings
The SOMBFAB (Some Of My Best Friends Are Bald) Glee Club gives the music-minded children with cancer or blood disorders at Rady and their siblings a chance to shine! The club is a place where the kids can grow as people and music lovers, giving them a much-needed boost in self-esteem. Under the guidance of San Diego Junior Theatre Musical Director Richard Morrison and a Dance Teaching Artist, the children will meet approximately 20 times throughout the year to sing and rehearse. They will then show off their talents with performances. Costs include compensation for teaching artists. (Amount needed: $3,600)
